How to look up information about Customer, Product and Supplier fields when using Report Generator.

When creating reports with report generator you may come to a point where you need to know what a value represents when reporting on a field. An example of this may be  if you report on the Primary barcode type for a product. To find out what the values that are used mean you can look this up using the File Detail button under the ’Export / Import Utility’. This list contains most of the fields that are available in report generator and what the values they contain represent.

To use the File detail button you simply open ‘Export / Import Utility’, select the File detail button to open the Export . Import Utility – File Info screen. From the bottom radio button section select the set of data (Customer, Product or Supplier) you wish to look up. This will determine what fields display in the list on the left hand side. From this list you are able to scroll through the fields (or use the search box) to locate the field you are trying to look up. The information about the selected field will show in the white info box on the right side of the screen.

This box provide the following information about a field if it is available:

  • Field Type – the type of data this field uses, either Numeric, Alpha/Numeric or Boolean. Boolean is generally used for fields like true/false tick boxes.

  • Valid values for the field – if the field has a set of preconfigured values this section will detail the values and what they represent.
