Home Hardware ‘DIY Rewards’ Program Integration

A change has been made to the ACR ShopTALK software to facilitate integration to the DIY Rewards Program. This change will be made available on the 7th of January 2018.

The rewards program itself is managed externally from the software, whose role is to communicate applicable transactions that have an affect the accrual or redemption of reward points.

Prior to using the software to integrate with DIY Rewards, you will need to supply ACR with the ‘Store Code’ that identifies you within the program. If you are unsure of this value, it is advised that you contact the DIY Rewards support team.

When a customer who is part of the program is purchasing goods in your store, they will provide you with their DIY Rewards card (issued to them by Home Hardware), which an operator will be able to scan in to identify that rewards member. Purchases made by that customer will accrue points, which can be redeemed at a later date when purchasing more goods. The remainder of this article covers the different areas of ACR ShopTALK that have been modified to facilitate this integration.

Point of Sale
  • Within the software Normal Cash Customers, COD Customers and Account customers can use the DIY Rewards program.
  • The ability to identify a DIY Rewards member has been added when their card has been scanned and entered at the key-in field (Point of Sale Line entry)

    • This lookup contacts the DIY Rewards server and relies on an established, active internet connection. If the software cannot reach the rewards program server, then the customer will not be identified for the sale and cannot redeem nor accrue points.
Once a DIY Rewards member has been identified:

      • the system will show the total and dollar value of their reward points available to them in the notes section.
      • If the sale was for a an identified account customer in ShopTALK that had been flagged as ‘Loyalty Applicable’, for the duration of the sale this will be set to false.
  • In the situation where a customer is not redeeming any points you would proceed with the sale as normal. At the time of sale completion the software will communicate to the rewards program server the sale details to facilitate the accrual of points.
    • When accruing points, if the software cannot reach the rewards program server immediately, the sale will complete as expected and the details will be stored and sent when the connection is restored.
  • A new payment method of ‘Reward Pts’ has been added into the ‘Sale Tender’ screen, for situations where the customer wishes to redeem some or all of their points.
    • ‘Reward Pts’ as payment method should be entered as a dollar value.
    • The total value redeemed cannot exceed the total value available to the customer, if this occurs the operator will be advised that ‘Insufficient Reward Points Available’.
    • This payment method relies on an established and active internet connection. If the software cannot reach the rewards program server, then the customer cannot redeem the points at this time and an alternative payment method will be required to complete the sale.
  • At the completion of a sale, details regarding the Rewards program will be included on the customer receipt:
    • Card Number
    • Points Balance and dollar value.
    • Points redeemed
    • Points Accrued
    • Sundry / Promotion  notes supplied by the rewards program.
  • A new semi-colon command ;BP has been added, which when invoked will bring up a window to provide bonus points manually at the discretion of the operator. This will only be available where the loyalty program in use supports bonus points (DIY Rewards is supported) and the operator belongs to a user group in the software that has ‘Expense Payout Authority’ set to true within ‘POS Security Authorisation’
  • A new payment method of ‘Reward Pts’ has been added into the POS Debtor Account payments screen. When this method is used the operator will need be prompted to scan the customer card to identify them within DIY Reward program.
Point of Sale – Account Payments
  • The ability to use “Reward Pts” as a form of account payment will be possible. When selecting this payment method, a screen will come up allowing the user to scan the DIY Reward Card. If the card number entered/scanned is correct you can at this point change the payment amount based on the available balance on the card.
Clear Register Totals Report

Modifications have been made to the Clear Registers Total report to include details relating to the DIY Rewards Program.

  • For the Register and Store Totals, where Summaries by Payment Type are shown (on the left hand side), the new payment type of ‘Reward Pts’ will now be included.
  • A new dissection has been added to the report, this is the ‘Reward Points Redemption Dissection’ and will highlight detail on redemptions made, including:
    • Card Number
    • Redemption amount (dollar value)
    • Register
  • A new dissection has been added to the report, this is the ‘Bonus Reward Points Dissection’ and will highlight detail on bonus points provided, including:

Till Summary
  • The Till Summary will have a seperate section for “Reward Points” and will pre-full with any “Reward Pts”
