3 Common Windows 10 Issues when using ACR

Depending on the age of your current workstations, you might have to upgrade from an earlier version of Windows to Windows 10. While ACR works exactly the same on Windows 10 as it does on earlier versions of Windows, there are some differences in how the operating system interacts with our program. The following list contains 3 common issues that we encounter, and the solutions to them.

Slow performance of ACR on WiFi connections

The inclusion of WiFi capabilities in almost every new Windows 10 computer system (desktop workstations included!) makes it easier to connect them to your network without having to worry about running ethernet cables across your warehouse or store.

However, if you do not use good quality WiFi equipment (like Ubiquiti Access Points for example), then your experience with ACR may suffer due to the poor network throughput WiFi has compared to ethernet connections. So if your new workstation seems to be performing worse than your previous one, make sure that you are using a wired ethernet connection to verify the issue is not related to network speed.

ACR blocked and unusable with antivirus enabled

While not as common as the issue above, this one still occurs regularly enough to warrant it’s inclusion on this list. Many new Windows 10 workstations will come with antivirus software preinstalled, which is good for the most part!

However, some antivirus software can be quite heavy-handed with applications and programs like ACR, denying any usage of our program with the default rules in place. A solution to this would be to add exceptions for ACR within your antivirus program or to change to a different brand of antivirus with more sophisticated and virus-detection algorithms.

Windows 10 disables some file sharing capabilities

The blocking of some file sharing capabilities critical to the functioning of ACR is the most common issue encountered on new Windows 10 workstations, though thankfully it is also the easiest to fix. Windows 10 by default will block some of the earlier versions of the Samba file sharing protocol that ACR uses after a period of not using your computer.

You can easily re-enable the earlier versions of the Samba protocol that ACR uses through the “Turn Windows Features on or off” screen, though we recommend calling one of the Tech team at ACR before you do so just in case.

Outside of these issues, your upgrade to Windows 10 should be a smooth experience. IF you have any further questions about upgrading to Windows 10 and how that might impact usage of ACR, feel free to contact our Tech team on (02) 4725 2020 Monday – Friday.
