When ACR Won’t Open: A Troubleshooting Guide

Very infrequently, you may arrive at work one day and find that you are experiencing difficulties when you try to open the ACR application – or that you can’t seem to find the ACR icon on your desktop.

Sometimes the issue you have encountered can only be resolved with the assistance of the ACR Tech Team, but we find that most issues can be fixed in a few simple steps.

What follows are a few call-free solutions to the most common start-up issues faced by customers when using our application.

Solution 1: Check your network connectivity

The most common solution to ACR not opening is verifying network connectivity and configuration. Specifically, verify that:

  • You are properly connected to the local network – check for a plugged-in Ethernet cable, or a strong wireless signal if using a wireless connection
  • You are on the correct network as the ACR server – this is usually the same one as the ACR server
  • You can reach the internet (try browse to Google if in doubt!)

Solution 2: Check that the ACR server is powered on

Blackouts are occurring more and more frequently, which can result in the powering-off of the ACR server overnight.

And while an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) can mitigate the most damaging effects of a blackout, it can still lead to the ACR server being left in a powered-off state. So, verify that the ACR server is powered on by:

  • Looking at the server status lights to confirm that the power light is solid green (though can differ across server models)
  • Listening for the sound of the cooling fans (they will be loud if the server is on!)

Please note though that you should not power-cycle the ACR server without first notifying the ACR Tech Team!

Solution 3: Check that ACR is installed correctly

If you are unable to find the ACR application icon on your desktop, or if double-clicking the ACR icon does not appear to do anything, double-check that the Windows PC you are using has ACR installed on it.

We have seen cases of ACR unintentionally being removed from a computer due to over-zealous Anti-Virus, or by an IT Support Provider.

Most of the time, you will be able to tell if ACR is installed by checking for the existence of the C:\acr folder on your Windows PC. If the installation of the ACR application is itself is the issue, a re-installation of the ACR software may be required.

If you have tried the solutions above but still can’t get the ACR application to open (or if you’d just like a hand with solving your issue), feel free to reach out to the ACR Tech Team via phone or email at (02) 4725 2020 or support@acr.com.au respectively. We’re more than happy to help resolve any issues you may be experiencing.
