Changing the Selling Unit of a Product

When the “Sold As Unit” of a product changes, there are a number of items to consider as it is not just a simple as changing the Sold As Unit in the Product File. It is important to remember that many details in a product file are based on the “Sold As Unit”. When changing a products “Sold As Unit” other areas within the product file will need to be changed as they do not automatically update.

You will also need to consider the following:

  • The Stock On Hand level. This will need to be updated to reflect the level for the new “Sold As Unit”.
  • The Cost needs to be updated to the cost for the new “Sold As Unit”.
  • The sell price/s must also be updated to reflect the new “Sold As Unit”.

Additionally, you may also want to also check if the following is also applicable:

  • “Sold As Multiples” will need to reflect the updated “Sold As Unit”.
  • “Weight per Sell Unit” will need to reflect the updated “Sold As Unit” , such as changing measurements if product is “Sold as Weight”.
  • Levies will need to reflect the the updated “Sold As Unit”.
  • “Maximum Order” and “Minimum Order” values will need to reflect the updated “Sold As Unit” and “Stock on Hand” level.
  • The selected Packaging type for Supplier Order as Unit and Order Multiples have the correct value .

Failing to update these will result in your sales figures, stock reporting to be incorrect. When changing the value of “Sold As Unit”, uncompleted invoices will have the customer’s ordered quantities in the old “Sold As Unit”. This can cause issues with picking and stock levels. Developing a plan for how to best handle these within your warehouse is the best course of action.
