The importance of a well maintained network

When the ACR server is installed and commissioned for use, it is connected to your internal network and will, more or less, act like any other network connected device. The way the ACR server runs is strongly characterized by the way in which your internal network is setup and connected to the internet. There are ways we can ensure that the network is setup to ensure that the server is working to its best potential.

IP Addressing

Most organizations use DHCP to serve IP addresses to local devices on the network. This is often a more scalable way to arrange a network than static routing all of the local devices. However, DHCP has the potential to bring along its own host of issues – the first of which, is the potential for IP addresses to clash if the DHCP server is not setup correctly.

Another issue that may occur, is the creation of rogue DHCP clients on the network which will start handing out IP addresses which will also cause a clash between IP addresses on the site.

To ensure that the ACR server runs to its best capacity, it is a good idea to ensure that DHCP is being served on the local network without any existing IP addressing conflicts.

Background Operations

There is a certain amount of bandwidth that can be available for devices to use onsite, and often this bandwidth may be taken up by background operations that you may not know are running. Services such as Google Drive, Google Filestream, and Dropbox, are examples of applications that run in the background and may not be apparent to users. It is essential to understand if you have these types of applications running, that they might cause issues with network speed which will affect the ACR servers performance also.

Network Speed

The amount of network speed or “bandwidth” that your internet connectivity has will also greatly affect the ACR servers capacity to deliver the ACR software. Ensure that you have plenty of available bandwidth via your internet connection, and that there aren’t any devices on the LAN that may be occupying this bandwidth.

Summary

A healthy network is key to ensuring that your ACR server works as effectively as it was originally designed to. If you are experiencing slow speeds on ACR, reach out to your IT team to see if there are any facets of the internal network that can be optimized.
